Australia Cracks Down on Illegal Online Gambling Sites
The Australian media watchdog, known as the ACMA, is taking strong action against illicit internet betting. They are striving to restrict access to websites promoting these activities, particularly those disguised as authentic evaluation platforms but operating as deceptive advertising schemes.
This initiative is significant because it marks the first time the ACMA has sought assistance from Australian internet service providers. Their focus is on sites directly connecting to unlawful gambling, such as “Aussie Casino Hex” and “Australia OK Casinos.” These platforms may appear legitimate but are intentionally misleading.
ACMA member Fiona Cameron emphasized that this effort aims to safeguard Australians from unscrupulous operators. These websites often entice individuals with promises of substantial bonuses but subsequently refuse to honor winnings. Furthermore, they frequently exploit vulnerable individuals struggling with gambling addiction.
Since receiving expanded authority in 2017, the ACMA has played a crucial role in combating illegal online gambling.
Officials in Australia have been taking a hard line against unlawful wagering, shuttering numerous online platforms and significantly increasing the difficulty for individuals to reach the most frequented ones. They’ve been applying substantial pressure to curb this illicit practice.”
